Welcome to the dumping ground for all my random thoughts and strokes of genius. Tread carefully.
P.S. The title comes from a Dorothy Parker quote. "This is not a novel to be tossed lightly aside. It should be thrown with great force."
Replace "novel" with just about anything else and you've got yourself some damn good words to live by.
Aight yall.
I couldn’t find the screenshot I wanted from a specific scene in this episode, so we’re going to play pretend for a sec.
In this scene, Rory is flipping out inside & uses her big blue doe eyes to get Logan to ditch his sister’s engagement party and steal a boat with her, because his family’s yacht is currently in use for the party and their other boats are at other ports and girlfriend is desperate.
“You know the beginning of Moby Dick, when the narrator says that when he finds himself growing grim about the mouth and wanted to knock people’s hats off, he takes to the sea? Well I feel like knocking people’s hats off.”
So they take to the sea. And then they go to jail.
And the reason she feels grim about the mouth and needs to take to the sea is because Lover Boy Logan’s papa just told her that she doesn’t have “it” aka the special skills that will allow her to fulfill her lifelong dream of a career as a journalist. I believe his words were “You’ll make a great assistant.”
And the reason I’m posting this is because someone made me feel this exact same way earlier this week, essentially telling me - without ever actually observing me - that I’m somehow not doing something right. The fact that there is hard numerical evidence that their opinions are wrong and that it’s really not me have not yet made me feel better about it.
Fortunately, my addiction to Gilmore Girls means that I will not attempt to make myself feel better by stealing a boat and landing in jail. Orange jumpsuits are not a good look for me.
